Predator-Prey Relationships
There are many predator-prey relationships inside this ecosystem. Here are a couple predator-prey relationships in this tropical rainforest.
Jaguars and Sloths:
Jaguars prey off of many different types of sloths. Because of this predator-prey relationship, certain types of sloths have become extinct from the extreme predation.
Anteaters and Ants:
From the name of both species, we are able to see the relationship between the two organisms. Anteaters prey on ants, demonstrating the predator-prey relationship.
Predation for Population Control:
Many tertiary and quaternary consumers play a role in population control. These organisms that are high in the food chain eat other organisms such as secondary or primary consumers. Through this predator-prey relationship, they help keep the population of these lower animals in control which helps prevent the producer population from going too low.
