Lear International Park takes special care in helping Lear's Macaws escape extinction. In 1999, there were only 170 known live Lear's Macaws left in the world. Through many conservation actions, many Lear's Macaws live in reservations. In July of 2008, the number of live Lear's Macaws rose to 962. This precaution and many other has helped the number of these macaws flourish until it has reached close to a thousand since 2009. Lear's Macaws face many dangers and must constantly be protected from illegal wild bird trades. These macaw's main food source, the licuri palm, has also become increasingly scarce, hurting the population size. Lear International Park helps these beautiful macaws and through protection programs and habitat preservation.
